Dracopedia Contest Winners

Greetings everyone! After much hand-wringing and debate the judges have decided on the four winners of the Dracopedia Art Contest.  We all loved the entries and it was a shame to narrow it down to only four.  I've actually added an "Editor's Choice Award".

Congratulations to the winners, thank you to everyone who contributed, and good luck with your artwork!

Enjoy.

William O'Connor

YOUTH CATEGORY:

1st place:
Aaron Murphy
Title: Emerald Venomclaw
Age: 15
CO, USA

LG West.  "...this was my favorite in the youth category. It's not easy to put two heads on a dragon, and the design shows some real observation  and problem solving, yet maintains pleasing proportions. The wings, which tend to be the least plausible bits, even among pros, are well designed. I also like the repourposing of the rear limbs."

2nd place:
Sarah Baker
Title: Dragon
Age: 7
New York, USA

T. Lockwood. "Love that it's mouth is open and it's roaring, and
love it's mane."

STUDENT CATEGORY:

1st Place:
Evan Monteiro
Title: Hellkite Monarch
Age: 21
Florida, USA

T. Lockwood. "This painting has everything: Good anatomy, nice
lighting, lively, majestic pose, a sense of story."

2nd Place
Betty Jiang
Title: Dragon
Age: 19
Canada
LG West. "The clearly protective posture is great, and the scale pattern works well. "

Editor's Choice:

Title: Glass Dragons
Age: 20
Florida, USA

  2. Congratulations! Maybe I'll have better luck next time in some other contest.
I think that second place in Youth category should be nominated as greatest success of humanity in art. It is totally awesome :)

It was really fun to work on, and I'm so thankful to have had my work seen by Todd Lockwood, Dan Dos Santos, Lars Grant West, and you Will. To my fellow contestants, it was a very good competition. Hope to see more of your work in the future!
